Supernatural Tree Halloween

 I don't know any atheists who argue that God doesn't exist. The atheists I know, including myself, argue they have no reason to believe He exists: that is, they have no credible evidence that He exists. As a shorthand, they may say, "God doesn't exist," but that doesn't mean they have proof.

Everyone I've every met follows the "extraordinary claims" rule. If I tell a Fundamentalist I can leap 1000 feet in the air, he'll demand proof. If I refuse to give him any, he won't believe me. I can't imagine him saying, "Well, since I can't prove you're unable to leap 1000 feet, I guess I'll have to keep an open mind about it." The main difference between him and an atheist is the atheist applies this same sort of skepticism to God.


Given that definition, is it falsifiable? Is there any conceivable way I could prove whether or not a supernatural being exists? Right away, we have a problem. We're trying to use Science, which only applies to the Natural world. Science has nothing to say about the supernatural. We also can't disprove that a being existed before the Universe and created it. Nor can we falsify the idea that a non-detectable being guides human affairs.


Since my concept of God isn't falsifiable, I can stop there. I can't use Science to prove or disprove God, and there's no other testing system I trust with claims like that. So I'm done. Some theists trust their profound feelings (or their profound senses of knowing). I don't. I don't trust them as reliable guides to cosmology.
